Baru kembali ke tanah air dari Arab, Ningsih (Wiwid Gunawan) menyewa taksi Ones untuk mengantarnya pulang kampung di Indramayu dengan iming-iming uang dalam jumlah besar. Tergiur, Ones pun setuju, namun di perjalanan, Ones harus membayar semua makan dan jajan Ningsih yang banyak. Alasan Ningsih, dia belum menukar dollar. Di tengah jalan, taksinya mogok. Damn Small Linux is a very versatile 50MB mini desktop oriented Linux distribution.
Damn Small is small enough and smart enough to do the following things:
* Boot from a business card CD as a live linux distribution (LiveCD)
* Boot from a USB pen drive
* Boot from within a host operating system (that's right, it can run *inside* Windows)
* Run very nicely from an IDE Compact Flash drive via a method we call "frugal install"
* Transform into a Debian OS with a traditional hard drive install
* Run light enough to power a 486DX with 16MB of Ram
* Run fully in RAM with as little as 128MB (you will be amazed at how fast your computer can be!)
* Modularly grow -- DSL is highly extendable without the need to customize
DSL was originally developed as an experiment to see how many usable desktop applications can fit inside a 50MB live CD. It was at first just a personal tool/toy. But over time Damn Small Linux grew into a community project with hundreds of development hours put into refinements including a fully automated remote and local application installation system and a very versatile backup and restore system which may be used with any writable media including a hard drive, a floppy drive, or a USB device.
DSL has a nearly complete desktop, and a tiny core of command line tools. All applications are chosen with the best balance of functionality, size and speed. Damn Small also has the ability to act as an SSH/FTP/HTTPD server right off of a live CD. In our quest to save space and have a fully functional desktop we've made many GUI administration tools which are fast yet still easy to use. What does DSL have?
XMMS (MP3, CD Music, and MPEG), FTP client, Dillo web browser, Netrik web browser, FireFox, spreadsheet, Sylpheed email, spellcheck (US English), a word-processor (Ted), three editors (Beaver, Vim, and Nano [Pico clone]), graphics editing and viewing (Xpaint, and xzgv), Xpdf (PDF Viewer), emelFM (file manager), Naim (AIM, ICQ, IRC), VNCviwer, Rdesktop, SSH/SCP server and client, DHCP client, PPP, PPPoE (ADSL), a web server, calculator, generic and GhostScript printer support, NFS, Fluxbox and JWM window managers, games, system monitoring apps, a host of command line tools, USB support, and pcmcia support, some wireless support.

SYEKH BUHANUDDIN ULAKAN - PONO - PARIAMAN

Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan adalah murid Syeikh Abdur Rauf bin Ali al-Fansuri dari Aceh, Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan inilah orang pertama menyebarkan Thariqat Syathariyah di Minangkabau. Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan yang tersebut wafat pada tahun 610 H/1214 M. Menurut riwayat pula bahwa Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan datang bersama dengan Syeikh Abdullah Arif yang menyebarkan agama Islam di Aceh.
Syeikh Burhanuddin pertama datang ke Minangkabau mengajar di Batu Hampar sekitar 10 tahun lamanya. Sesudah itu, dia berpindah ke perkumpulan yang dekat dengan imam Bonjol, beliau mengajar di situ sekitar lima tahun. Kemudian dia meneruskan kegiatan dakwahnya ke Ulakan, Pariaman, mengajar selama 15 tahun. Dilanjutkan pula mengajar di Kuntu, Kampar Kiri, di sana dia mengajar selama 20 tahun, sehingga dia wafat pada 610 H/1214 M.
Diriwayatkan pula bahawa peninggalan-peninggalan Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan yang tersebut ialah berupa sebuah stempel yang diperbuat daripada tembaga tulisan Arab, sebilah pedang, kitab Fathul Wahhab karya Syeikh Abi Zakaria al-Ansari dan khutbah Jumaat tulisan tangan dalam bahasa Arab.
PENDIDIKAN
Namanya ketika masih kecil ialah Si Pono, ayahnya bernama Pampak. Ayahnya masih beragama Buddha, namun Si Pono dari Sintuk pergi ke Ulakan, pergi belajar kepada Angku Madinah yang berasal dari Aceh. Pada tahun 1032 H/1622 M atas anjuran gurunya, dia melanjutkan pelajaran agama Islam kepada Syeikh Abdur Rauf bin Ali al-Fansuri di Aceh. Lalu Syeikh Abdur Rauf al-Fansuri menukar namanya daripada Si Pono menjadi Burhanuddin. Tiga belas tahun lamanya dia belajar kepada ulama yang wali Allah itu. Ketika belajar berteman dengan beberapa orang, di antaranya Datuk Marhum Panjang dari Padang Ganting Tanah Datar, Tarapang dari Kubang Tiga Belas (Solok) dan lain-lain.
Beliau adalah seorang yang sangat patuh kepada gurunya, hal ini pernah diceritakan oleh Dr. Syeikh Haji Jalaluddin dalam salah satu bukunya sebagai berikut di bawah ini, “Dari sehari ke sehari tumbuhlah kasih sayang, takut dan malu kepada Syeikh tersebut. Pada suatu hari Syeikh itu mengunyah- nguyah sirih. Tiba-tiba tempat kapur sirihnya terlepas dari tangannya jatuh ke dalam kakus. Yang mana kakus (tandas,pen:) itu sangat dalam, telah dipakai berpuluh-puluh tahun”. Tuan Syeikh berkata: “Siapa antara kalian sebanyak ini sudi membersihkan kakus itu sebersih-bersihnya? Sambil untuk mengambil tempat sirih saya yang jatuh ke dalamnya?”.
Ramai murid yang merasa enggan dan malas mengerjakan yang diperintah Syeikh itu. Kemudian Burhanuddin bekerja berjam-jam membersihkan kakus itu sehingga bersih dan tempat kapur sirih pun ditemukan, lalu dibersihkannya dan dipersembahkannya kepada Syeikh tersebut. lalu tuan Syeikh berdoa dengan sepanjang-panjang doa. Selanjutnya Syeikh itu berkata: “Tanganmu ini akan dicium oleh raja-raja, penghulu-penghulu, orang besar di Sumatera Barat dan muridmu tidak akan putus-putusnya sampai akhir zaman, dan ilmu kamu akan memberkati dunia ini. Aku namai kamu Saidi Syeikh Burhanuddin”.
KEMBALI KE MINANGKABAU
Setelah dia berasa ilmu telah banyak dan telah pula mendapat izinan dari gurunya, Syeikh Abdur Rauf bin Ali al-Fansuri, beliau pun kembali ke tempat asalnya. Sebelumnya gurunya berkata, “Pulanglah kamu ke negerimu, ajarkanlah ilmu apa-apa yang ditakdirkan oleh Allah. Kalau kamu tetap kasih, takut, malu, patuh kepadaku nanti kamu akan mendapat hikmat kebatinan yakni seolah-olah ruhaniyah saya menjelma kepadamu. Kalau kamu berkata, seolah-olah itu adalah kataku. Kalau kamu mengajar seolah-olah itu adalah pengajaranku. Bahkan terkadang-kadang rupa jasadmu seolah-olah itu adalah jasadku. Kalau kamu sudah begitu rupa mudahlah bagi kamu mengajarkan agama Islam kepada siapa pun juga. itulah yang dikatakan Rabithah Mursyid.
Seseorang yang mendapat Rabithah Mursyid orang itu akan terus mendapat taufik dan hidayah Allah. Dan diberi ilmu hikmah, terbuka rahsia Allah dan berbahagialah orang itu dunia akhirat, insya-Allah. Kita hanya bercerai pada lahir, pada batin kita tidak bercerai,” demikian Dr. Syeikh Haji Jalaluddin yang ditulis dengan gaya tasawuf bersifat propaganda.
Prof. Dr. Hamka menulis dalam bukunya Ayahku bahawa Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan murid Syeikh Abdur Rauf bin Ali al-Fansuri kembali ke kampung halamannya pada tahun 1100 H bersamaan tahun 1680M. Sejarah mencatat bahawa beliau meninggal dunia di Ulakan pada 1111 H atau 1691 M, lalu dimashyurkan oranglah namanya dengan “Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan”.
Mengenai riwayat hidup yang pernah diterbitkan, yitu buah pena Tuan Guru Haji Harun At-Thubuhi Rafinayani. Bahawa dalam buku kecil itu menyebut Syeikh Burhanuddin itu adalah berasal daripada suku Guci. Buya K.H. Sirajuddin Abbas juga menulis demikian. Terakhir sekali tentang tokoh sufi ini dapat pula dibaca dalam tulisan Drs. Sidi Gazalba yang dimuat dalam buku Mesjid Pusat Ibadat dan Kebudayaan Islam.
KETURUNAN
Menerusi tulisan Dr. Syeikh Haji Jalaluddin, dapat juga disimpulkan keterangan bahawa Syeikh Burhanuddin kembali dari Aceh dengan berjalan kaki. Mula-mula dia sampai ke negeri Tiku, Kabupaten Agam sekarang. Di Tiku itu dia berkahwin dengan seorang perempuan setempat. Dari perkahwinan itu dia mendapat anak lelaki yang bernaman “Sidi Abdullah Faqih”,. Beliau ini kemudian meneruskan ajaran orang tuanya.
Sidi Abdullah Faqih mendapat anak bernama “Sidi Abdul Jabbar”. Syeikh Abdul Jabbar mendapat anak bernama "Sidi Syeikh IIyas”. Sidi Syeikh Ilyas mendapat anak bernama “Sidi Yusni”. Sidi Yusni adalah murid Dr. Syeikh Jalaluddin dan sangat patuh kepada gurunya. Mungkin ayahnya Sidi Ilyas adalah keturunan Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan yang pertama mengamalkan Thariqat Qadiriyah dan Naqsyabandiyah, kerana sebelumnya semuanya mengamalkan Thariqat Syathariyah. Diketahui pula bahawa Sidi Syeikh Ilyas tersebut adalah cicit Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan, beliau inilah baru mempersatukan antara tarekat dengan ilmu pencak silat, sebagai alat mempertahankan diri.
Manakala yang ditulis oleh Dr. Syeikh Jalaluddin tersebut agak berbeda dengan cerita masyarakat, yang meriwayatkan bahawa Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan tidak mempunyai zuriat. Diriwayatkan bahawa ketika dia belajar di Aceh pada suatu hari kerana syahwatnya naik, dia telah memukul kemaluannya sendiri, sehingga kemaluannya mengalami kecederaan dan menyebabkan tidak berfungsi lagi untuk melakukan hubungan seks.
TRADISI HARI RABU AKHIR BULAN SAFAR
Hingga kini kubur Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan masih diziarahi orang, terutama pada hari Rabu akhir bulan Safar. Dr. Syeikh Haji Jalaluddin selaku Ketua Umum Seumur Hidup P.P.T.I (Persatuan Pembela Thariqat Islam) mengajak seluruh pengikutnya setelah selesai Kongres P.P.T.I yang ke-16 mengadakan ziarah ke makam Syeikh Burhanuddin di Ulakan.
Semua mereka mengi'tiqadkan bahawa Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan adalah seorang Wali Allah yang banyak karamahnya. Kalau bertawassul kepadanya selalu dimustajabkan. Salah satu tradisi yang terjadi di makam di Ulakan itu yang terkenal sampai sekarang ialah Basapa. Tentang ini kita ikuti tulisan Sidi Gazalba, sebagai berikut, “Syeikh Burhanuddin wafat 10 Safar 1111 Hijrah. Kerana 10 Safar itu tidak tentu jatuh pada hari Rabu, maka ziarah ke makam pembangun Islam di Minangkabau itu yang dilakukan serempak hampir dari tiap pelosok Minangkabau, dilakukan dari hari Rabu sesudah 10 Safar itu setiap tahun.
Berziarah ini terkenal dengan sebutan basapa (bersafar) yang dilakukan serempak oleh puluhan ribu orang sebelum perang Pasifik. Maka jalan di antara Pariaman dan Ulakan penuh oleh iringan orang-orang pulang ziarah, yang jumlah panjangnya sampai kira-kira 10 kilometer. Kaum Muda di Minangkabau menolak basapa. demikian menurut Drs. Sidi Gazalba.
Ramai orang menuduh yang melakukan basapa terutamanya terdiri dari golongan tasawuf, lebih-lebih golongan Thariqat Syathariyah. Akan tetapi kalau kita selidiki lebih jauh, bukti dan kenyataannya bukan golongan Syathariyah saja, namun demikian golongan Thariqat Qadiriyah, golongan Thariqat Naqsyabandiyah, juga pengikut Mazhab Syafie bahkan orang-orang yang mengaku berdasarkan al-Quran dan hadis (tegasnya kaum muda) pun tidak kurang pula mengerjakan basapa di kubur Syeikh Burhanuddin di Ulakan itu.
Upacara basapa/bersafar adalah merupakan tradisi nasional kerana dia juga dilakukan di tempat lain di seluruh Nusantara. Penulis belum yakin bahawa dikeranakan Syeikh Burhanuddin itu wafat hari Rabu bulan Safar dijadikan sebab maka terjadinya basapa. Di Kalimantan Barat misalnya, orang bersafar ke kubur Upu Daeng Menambon di Sebukit Raya (di hulu Mempawah). Orang menduga bahawa Upu Daeng Menambon meninggal dunia pada 16 Safar 1174 H, iaitu tepat pada hari Rabu di akhir bulan Safar. Di Tanjung Katung, Singapura, pada zaman dulu ramai orang mandi-mandi Safar di sana, ini diakibatkan dengan meninggalnya siapa? Dan meninggalnya siapa pula jika dikerjakan perkara itu di tempat lain-lainnya?
Sebenarnya dalam kitab-kitab Islam banyak yang menyebut memang ada dinamakan bala pada akhir Safar. Seumpama Syeikh Muhammad bin Ismail Daud al-Fathani menyalin perkataan ulama, yang beliau muat dalam kitabnya Al-Bahyatul Mardhiyah, kata beliau, “Kata ulama disebut dalam kitab Al-Jawahir, diturunkan bala pada tiap-tiap tahun 320,000 (tiga ratus dua puluh ribu) bala. Dan sekalian bala pada hari Rabu yang akhir pada bulan Safar. Maka hari itu terlebih payah daripada setahun”. Syeikh Daud bin Abdullah al-Fathani menulis juga seperti demikian di dalam kitabnya, Jam'ul Fawaid.
Demikian juga ulama-ulama lainnya, baik yang berasal dari dunia Melayu mahu pun bukan. Jelas bahawa memang ada ulama yang mengakui pada hari Rabu akhir Safar itu ada bala yang turun. Bahawa Islam meyakini memang ada yang dinamakan bala, ada yang dinamakan taun, ada yang dinamakan wabak dan sebagainya. Sebaliknya sebagai perimbangannya ada yang dinamakan rahmat, ada yang dinamakan berkat, ada yang dinamakan hidayat dan sebagainya.
Tentang bila Tuhan menurunkan yang tersebut itu tiada siapa yang mengetahuinya. Dalam Islam ada nama-nama yang tersebut itu semua, bahkan telah menjadi keyakinan adanya. Sungguh pun turunnya bala, wabak atau sebaliknya tiada siapa yang mengetahuinya. Namun dalam menyambut hari yang bersejarah bolehlah akhir Safar, Rabunya dimasukkan dalam kategori ini ramai orang membuat kaedah-kaedah baru yang kadang-kadang berlebih-lebihan sifatnya. Selalu pula terjadi bidaah dan khurafat yang dicela oleh Islam itu sendiri.
Sebagai contoh, bersuka ria pada akhir Safar itu dengan melakukan mandi-mandi secara berkelompok, berkumpul lelaki dan perempuan adalah satu pekerjaan bidaah mazmumah yang sangat dilarang oleh syarak. Akan tetapi berdoa minta perlindungan daripada bala atau memohon rahmat atau lainnya adalah diajarkan oleh agama Islam. Meminta sesuatu kepada Allah boleh dilakukan setiap saat baik pada akhir Safar atau waktu lainnya lebih-lebih waktu yang dianggap berkat. Doa-doa dan perbuatan meminum air Safar pun tidak pula dapat dinafikan kerana banyak ulama yang telah menulis wafaq Safar itu di dalam kitab-kitab mereka, yang salahnya adalah perbuatan si jahil yang selalu melakukannya berlebih-lebihan.
Hingga di sini penulis tutup mengenai Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan, ulama besar mazhab Syafiie, pengikut fahaman Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah, penyebar Thariqat Syathariyah di daerah Minangkabau yang telah mencurahkan seluruh hidupnya untuk Islam semata-mata bukan kepentingan lainnya. Usaha-usahanya belakang hari akan diikuti oleh ulama-ulama yang berasal dari Sumatera Barat secara berantai yang tiada akan putus-putusnya hingga waktu sekarang.
Kita mengenali nama-nama popular yang berasal dari Minangkabau di antaranya ialah; Syeikh Ismail bin Abdullah Minangkabau, Syeikh Ahmad Khathib bin Abdul Latif Minangkabau, Syeikh Sulaiman Ar-Rasuli Candung, Syeikh Jamil Jaho, Dr. Syeikh Haji Jalaluddin, Syeikh Jamil Jambek, Dr. Abdul Malik Amrullah, Kiayi Haji Sirajuddin Abbas, Prof. Dr. Hamka dan ramai lagi.

Syeikh Burhanuddin pertama datang ke Minangkabau mengajar di Batu Hampar sekitar 10 tahun lamanya. Sesudah itu, dia berpindah ke perkumpulan yang dekat dengan imam Bonjol, beliau mengajar di situ sekitar lima tahun. Kemudian dia meneruskan kegiatan dakwahnya ke Ulakan, Pariaman, mengajar selama 15 tahun. Dilanjutkan pula mengajar di Kuntu, Kampar Kiri, di sana dia mengajar selama 20 tahun, sehingga dia wafat pada 610 H/1214 M.
Diriwayatkan pula bahawa peninggalan-peninggalan Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan yang tersebut ialah berupa sebuah stempel yang diperbuat daripada tembaga tulisan Arab, sebilah pedang, kitab Fathul Wahhab karya Syeikh Abi Zakaria al-Ansari dan khutbah Jumaat tulisan tangan dalam bahasa Arab.
PENDIDIKAN
Namanya ketika masih kecil ialah Si Pono, ayahnya bernama Pampak. Ayahnya masih beragama Buddha, namun Si Pono dari Sintuk pergi ke Ulakan, pergi belajar kepada Angku Madinah yang berasal dari Aceh. Pada tahun 1032 H/1622 M atas anjuran gurunya, dia melanjutkan pelajaran agama Islam kepada Syeikh Abdur Rauf bin Ali al-Fansuri di Aceh. Lalu Syeikh Abdur Rauf al-Fansuri menukar namanya daripada Si Pono menjadi Burhanuddin. Tiga belas tahun lamanya dia belajar kepada ulama yang wali Allah itu. Ketika belajar berteman dengan beberapa orang, di antaranya Datuk Marhum Panjang dari Padang Ganting Tanah Datar, Tarapang dari Kubang Tiga Belas (Solok) dan lain-lain.
Beliau adalah seorang yang sangat patuh kepada gurunya, hal ini pernah diceritakan oleh Dr. Syeikh Haji Jalaluddin dalam salah satu bukunya sebagai berikut di bawah ini, “Dari sehari ke sehari tumbuhlah kasih sayang, takut dan malu kepada Syeikh tersebut. Pada suatu hari Syeikh itu mengunyah- nguyah sirih. Tiba-tiba tempat kapur sirihnya terlepas dari tangannya jatuh ke dalam kakus. Yang mana kakus (tandas,pen:) itu sangat dalam, telah dipakai berpuluh-puluh tahun”. Tuan Syeikh berkata: “Siapa antara kalian sebanyak ini sudi membersihkan kakus itu sebersih-bersihnya? Sambil untuk mengambil tempat sirih saya yang jatuh ke dalamnya?”.
Ramai murid yang merasa enggan dan malas mengerjakan yang diperintah Syeikh itu. Kemudian Burhanuddin bekerja berjam-jam membersihkan kakus itu sehingga bersih dan tempat kapur sirih pun ditemukan, lalu dibersihkannya dan dipersembahkannya kepada Syeikh tersebut. lalu tuan Syeikh berdoa dengan sepanjang-panjang doa. Selanjutnya Syeikh itu berkata: “Tanganmu ini akan dicium oleh raja-raja, penghulu-penghulu, orang besar di Sumatera Barat dan muridmu tidak akan putus-putusnya sampai akhir zaman, dan ilmu kamu akan memberkati dunia ini. Aku namai kamu Saidi Syeikh Burhanuddin”.
KEMBALI KE MINANGKABAU
Setelah dia berasa ilmu telah banyak dan telah pula mendapat izinan dari gurunya, Syeikh Abdur Rauf bin Ali al-Fansuri, beliau pun kembali ke tempat asalnya. Sebelumnya gurunya berkata, “Pulanglah kamu ke negerimu, ajarkanlah ilmu apa-apa yang ditakdirkan oleh Allah. Kalau kamu tetap kasih, takut, malu, patuh kepadaku nanti kamu akan mendapat hikmat kebatinan yakni seolah-olah ruhaniyah saya menjelma kepadamu. Kalau kamu berkata, seolah-olah itu adalah kataku. Kalau kamu mengajar seolah-olah itu adalah pengajaranku. Bahkan terkadang-kadang rupa jasadmu seolah-olah itu adalah jasadku. Kalau kamu sudah begitu rupa mudahlah bagi kamu mengajarkan agama Islam kepada siapa pun juga. itulah yang dikatakan Rabithah Mursyid.
Seseorang yang mendapat Rabithah Mursyid orang itu akan terus mendapat taufik dan hidayah Allah. Dan diberi ilmu hikmah, terbuka rahsia Allah dan berbahagialah orang itu dunia akhirat, insya-Allah. Kita hanya bercerai pada lahir, pada batin kita tidak bercerai,” demikian Dr. Syeikh Haji Jalaluddin yang ditulis dengan gaya tasawuf bersifat propaganda.
Prof. Dr. Hamka menulis dalam bukunya Ayahku bahawa Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan murid Syeikh Abdur Rauf bin Ali al-Fansuri kembali ke kampung halamannya pada tahun 1100 H bersamaan tahun 1680M. Sejarah mencatat bahawa beliau meninggal dunia di Ulakan pada 1111 H atau 1691 M, lalu dimashyurkan oranglah namanya dengan “Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan”.
Mengenai riwayat hidup yang pernah diterbitkan, yitu buah pena Tuan Guru Haji Harun At-Thubuhi Rafinayani. Bahawa dalam buku kecil itu menyebut Syeikh Burhanuddin itu adalah berasal daripada suku Guci. Buya K.H. Sirajuddin Abbas juga menulis demikian. Terakhir sekali tentang tokoh sufi ini dapat pula dibaca dalam tulisan Drs. Sidi Gazalba yang dimuat dalam buku Mesjid Pusat Ibadat dan Kebudayaan Islam.
KETURUNAN
Menerusi tulisan Dr. Syeikh Haji Jalaluddin, dapat juga disimpulkan keterangan bahawa Syeikh Burhanuddin kembali dari Aceh dengan berjalan kaki. Mula-mula dia sampai ke negeri Tiku, Kabupaten Agam sekarang. Di Tiku itu dia berkahwin dengan seorang perempuan setempat. Dari perkahwinan itu dia mendapat anak lelaki yang bernaman “Sidi Abdullah Faqih”,. Beliau ini kemudian meneruskan ajaran orang tuanya.
Sidi Abdullah Faqih mendapat anak bernama “Sidi Abdul Jabbar”. Syeikh Abdul Jabbar mendapat anak bernama "Sidi Syeikh IIyas”. Sidi Syeikh Ilyas mendapat anak bernama “Sidi Yusni”. Sidi Yusni adalah murid Dr. Syeikh Jalaluddin dan sangat patuh kepada gurunya. Mungkin ayahnya Sidi Ilyas adalah keturunan Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan yang pertama mengamalkan Thariqat Qadiriyah dan Naqsyabandiyah, kerana sebelumnya semuanya mengamalkan Thariqat Syathariyah. Diketahui pula bahawa Sidi Syeikh Ilyas tersebut adalah cicit Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan, beliau inilah baru mempersatukan antara tarekat dengan ilmu pencak silat, sebagai alat mempertahankan diri.
Manakala yang ditulis oleh Dr. Syeikh Jalaluddin tersebut agak berbeda dengan cerita masyarakat, yang meriwayatkan bahawa Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan tidak mempunyai zuriat. Diriwayatkan bahawa ketika dia belajar di Aceh pada suatu hari kerana syahwatnya naik, dia telah memukul kemaluannya sendiri, sehingga kemaluannya mengalami kecederaan dan menyebabkan tidak berfungsi lagi untuk melakukan hubungan seks.
TRADISI HARI RABU AKHIR BULAN SAFAR
Hingga kini kubur Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan masih diziarahi orang, terutama pada hari Rabu akhir bulan Safar. Dr. Syeikh Haji Jalaluddin selaku Ketua Umum Seumur Hidup P.P.T.I (Persatuan Pembela Thariqat Islam) mengajak seluruh pengikutnya setelah selesai Kongres P.P.T.I yang ke-16 mengadakan ziarah ke makam Syeikh Burhanuddin di Ulakan.
Semua mereka mengi'tiqadkan bahawa Syeikh Burhanuddin Ulakan adalah seorang Wali Allah yang banyak karamahnya. Kalau bertawassul kepadanya selalu dimustajabkan. Salah satu tradisi yang terjadi di makam di Ulakan itu yang terkenal sampai sekarang ialah Basapa. Tentang ini kita ikuti tulisan Sidi Gazalba, sebagai berikut, “Syeikh Burhanuddin wafat 10 Safar 1111 Hijrah. Kerana 10 Safar itu tidak tentu jatuh pada hari Rabu, maka ziarah ke makam pembangun Islam di Minangkabau itu yang dilakukan serempak hampir dari tiap pelosok Minangkabau, dilakukan dari hari Rabu sesudah 10 Safar itu setiap tahun.
Berziarah ini terkenal dengan sebutan basapa (bersafar) yang dilakukan serempak oleh puluhan ribu orang sebelum perang Pasifik. Maka jalan di antara Pariaman dan Ulakan penuh oleh iringan orang-orang pulang ziarah, yang jumlah panjangnya sampai kira-kira 10 kilometer. Kaum Muda di Minangkabau menolak basapa. demikian menurut Drs. Sidi Gazalba.
Ramai orang menuduh yang melakukan basapa terutamanya terdiri dari golongan tasawuf, lebih-lebih golongan Thariqat Syathariyah.
